Equipment Recycling

When ITS upgrades computer equipment in pods, classrooms and staff offices, the older, used equipment may be recycled to other UNM units and departments at no charge. Used equipment generally becomes available one or two times a year, as funding allows for new equipment purchases.

Available recycled equipment typically includes:

How to Request Recycled Equipment

UNM departments and units interested in acquiring “free,” used equipment should contact Anne Snider at ITS to find out what’s currently available, 277-8105.

Requests are filled on a first-come, first-served basis, and ITS maintains a waiting/priority list. Units that have not received recycled equipment are given priority over those that have recently used the program.

To request recycled equipment (after determining what's available):

  1. Send an email to Anne Snider outlining what equipment is desired and how your unit intends to use it.

  2. Copy the dean, director or chair of the requesting unit or department.

  3. Copy the vice president or Provost to whom the dean, director or chair reports.

Buyer Beware

Requestors should be aware that recycled equipment is not on the leading-edge of technology, and may need additional memory or storage, new software or peripherals to be fully functional and compliant with legal requirements. The cost of these purchases is the responsibility of the requesting unit, not ITS.

See ITS’ Hardware Maintenance page for information about contracting with ITS to perform equipment upgrades.
