In order to determine the optimum page size, number of pages, number of files, and volume placement for an area, the DBA group requires considerable information about an area. This information is organized into a single pds, DBA.IDMSPROD.AREAS, containing one member for each area in the production CV's.
Before a new area is created in production, a member must be created in this pds and filled with the requested information. Copy member SAMPLE as a guide for standard area SAMPLEX as a guide for index areas. Use upper and lower case to make the member more readable. Since the member name must be limited to 8 characters, omit the -AREA or -REGION from the
name, and make any necessary abbreviations to fit the name into 8 characters. Fill in all the xxxx slots, adding new lines where necessary.
Every Saturday jobs are run to report on the number of records in each database area. These reports may be browsed in the files DBA.CV20.AREARPT, DBA.CV30.AREARPT, and DBA.CV40.AREARPT. The record types are displayed as SRnnnn, where nnnn
is the record ID as shown on the Bachman diagrams or schema listings. These files may also be used to find out the segment name in which an area resides.
