Mainframe Availability Calendar

Mainframe Availability Calendar (MAC) is a UNM developed scheduling system for IDMS. MAC shows all scheduled activities for the two IDMS central versions (IDMS30 and IDMS40). The calendar also shows system activities on the 9121. The MAC system was created to allow the requesting parties of IDMS or Systems to schedule their own activities. Information on MAC informs all IDMS users when IDMS or 9121 will not be available for processing. The Communication Center uses MAC to write their global messages. Operations receives the instructions for the day from the MAC system. The MAC system allows all IDMS users to view the activities, but only authorized IDMS users may enter or modify activities.

Activities entered on MAC must be approved by the DBA team and Scheduling. MAC includes two communication features to notify scheduling and the DBA team of event activity: Notes and E-Mail.

When an activity is entered, NOTES can be used to explain the nature of the activity. Many notes can be entered for an activity. The notes are stored last in/first out. The usage of notes allows for a dialog to develop if there are questions or comments about the activity. Notes are used to create special instructions to Operations about that activity.

The MAC E-Mail function is used to post a letter to a set of people concerned with MAC activities. When an activity is created, an E-Mail posts a standard message to the MAC alias group of receivers. Other E-Mail addresses can be added to the posting at the time of submission. The E-Mail function can also be used when modifying an activity or when any MAC E-Mail posting is required. The E-Mail posting informs the DBA team and Scheduling that an activity needs to be examined for approval. A newly created or modified activity will have a 'pending'status on approval. Two activities with the same date will have a 'pending with conflict' status. The DBA Team and Scheduling both must approve, cancel, or reject an activity.
