Choosing a NetID

When you apply for your NetID, you may choose your own NetID name. This is the name by which you will be known to UNM’s computer and email system. Many people choose a NetID that is comprised of all or part of their name. For example, Joe Garcia might choose the NetID jgarcia. His UNM email address would be jgarcia@unm.edu.

If the NetID name you choose is already being used, the application will prompt you to choose another NetID.

UNM Retirees

Retiring UNM faculty and staff may keep their NetIDs indefinitely. The "Retired" affiliation will be added automatically. However, if you have any problems with your NetID, contact the ITS Support Center, 505.277.4848.

UNM Departments and Organizations, and Non-UNM Users

NetIDs created for use by UNM departments and organizations, or for non-UNM guests, are given a termination date at the time the account is created. These NetIDs can be renewed for up to three years. Accounts that have passed the termination date will deleted. It is the responsibility of the account holder, the department or the organization, to renew NetIDs before the termination date.

Other UNM Computer Accounts

UNM Mainframe Access

In some cases, a student, faculty or staff member needs access to UNM’s mainframe via MVS, TSO or IDMS. Your manager or supervisor will usually let you know if you need this access.

Mainframe access is granted by designated Business Security Administrators (BSAs) in departments or administrative areas. The BSA will provide you with information on starting and using your MVS, TSO or IDMS account.

Oracle

Any UNM faculty or staff member may create an Oracle ID for use with UNM administrative systems with the Oracle NetID creation program. Your manager or supervisor will let you know if you need Oracle access for your job. You must have a UNM NetID before you can get an Oracle ID. Student employees, UNMH staff and affiliates needing an Oracle ID should call the ITS Support Center, 505.277.4848.
